Smoky oil-free potato chips with avocado and hummus swirl dip

These oil-free potato chips is a lovely excuse to indulge

I can’t think of one person who does not like potato chips.  It’s a quick and easy snack to fill up little tummies on the go and satisfy starchy cravings.  

This recipe is packed with flavour, while still sugar, salt and oil free.  If you are trying to be on the healthier side of things, substitute sweet potato for the potatoes.  Just make sure that you scrub them nicely.  

These oil-free potato chips will convince you that you don’t need a ton of oil to prepare chips.  The added bonus is that they are 200% kid friendly.  My very picky five year old loves them!

Try the seasoning combination and them experiment with your own combinations.  Remember to comment with what combinations you love!

Satisfying oil-free, vegan potato chips with avocado and hummus dips.

Ingredients

  • 4 each Medium potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon Smoked Paprika
  • 1/2 tablespoon Dried basil
  • 1/2 tablespoon Dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic flakes

Hummus

  • 2 cups Cooked chick peas aquafaba reserved
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice Fresh squeezed
  • 1 tablespoon Tahini
  • Black pepper to taste

Avocado

  • 1 large Avocado
  • 3-4 tablespoon Aquafaba reserved from chickpeas
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice Fresh squeezed
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 210 degrees Celsius. 

    Prepare the potatoes by washing them thoroughly and cutting into your preferred chip size or wedges.   Par boil the chips to just tender.

  1. Mix the spices together and toss the hot chips in the spice mix to coat.  

  2. Spread out the potatoes on a baking sheet.  A perforated tray will help prevent sogginess.

    Bake until the skins begin to crisp up slightly and the potatoes are soft and buttery,

Hummus

  1. Blend all the ingredients until smooth.  If you find that you are struggling to blend, add a little of the Aquafaba.   The consistency is up to you, but you want to be able to dip easily.

    Spoon into your dipping bowl.

Avocado

  1. As with the Hummus, blend all the ingredients together.  If you want to have more of an avocado flavour, simply omit the Aquafaba and use water to blend.  

    Spoon the avocado mixture into the middle of the Hummus and swirl through.

Recipe Notes

Top the dip with finely chopped such as cucumber for bursts of freshness.

Mix chopped coriander through for more flavour.

Finely chopped tomato and a splash of your favourite vinegar will also bring a different dimension.

 

This dip will also work nicely on a slice of fresh Ciabatta.
